Kyle Pugh joins the Blue Dragon men’s basketball coaching staff as an assistant for the 2023-24 season.

Hutchinson Community College is Pugh’s second stop for Pugh in the Jayhawk Conference. The Champaign, Illinois native was an assistant coach at Cloud County Community College for two seasons prior to him coming to Hutchinson.

Before working on the Thunderbird coaching staff, Pugh worked for the University of Jacksonville as the Director of Basketball Operations and as a graduate assistant prior to his move into a full-time role with the Dolphins.

While at Cloud County, the Thunderbirds were 30-33 in two seasons with Pugh on staff, which included six victories over NJCAA Top 25 teams in the 2022-23 season. Cloud County was ranked as high as No. 21 in the 2022-23 NJCAA Rankings and earned a first-round Region VI Tournament home game for the first time in several seasons.

Pugh’s one season as Director of Basketball Operations at Jacksonville University came during the Covid-stricken season of 2020-21. That team did post a 3.10 team grade-point-average.

Pugh served as a graduate assistant for the Dolphins’ program the previous two years. Jacksonville was 26-38 in those two seasons. Pugh handled two ASUN All-Freshmen players as well as the ASUN Defensive Player of the Year.

Prior to his time at Jacksonville, he was a student manager at the University of Illinois from 2016-18, working on the staffs of both John Groce and Brad Underwood. While with the Illini, he was responsible for assisting with individual workouts and tracking statistics in practice and games. The 2017 Ilini qualified for the NIT Tournament. From 2014 to 2016, Pugh was a student assistant at NJCAA Division II Parkland College in Champaign, Illinois. Pugh’s teams twice won league championships and the 2016 Parkland team was the Region XXIV Tournament and finished sixth in the NJCAA Division II National Tournament posting a 24-13 record.

Born on June 13, 1995, Pugh was a 2014 graduate of Tuscola High School in Tuscola, Illinois. He graduated from Parkland College in 2016 with an Associates’ degree in Business Administration. Pugh graduated from Illinois in 2018 with a Bachelors’ degree in Management and graduated from Jacksonville University with a master’s degree in sports management in 2020.
