Back from the holiday break, the Hutchinson Community College men's basketball team opens the second semester with the first of two-straight ranked opponents.
The Blue Dragons (8-5, 4-3 KJCCC) play host to No. 6 Cowley (13-1, 8-0 KJCCC) in a 4 p.m. Jayhawk Conference tipoff at the Hutchinson Sports Arena.
After Saturday's matchup with the No. 6 Tigers, the Blue Dragons travel to play at No. 5 Butler on Wednesday in El Dorado.

Saturday's game will be broadcast live on Blue Dragon flagship station KHUT-FM (102.9) and on sister stations KWBW-AM/FM (1450/98.5) beginning at 1:45 p.m. with Steve Carpenter (play-by-play) and Dan Naccarato (analyst) calling the action. The game will be streamed live and free on the Blue Dragon Sports Network beginning at 3:45 p.m.
The Blue Dragons return from a 21-day hiatus on a two-game winning streak. Hutchinson defeated Garden City 83-78 on December 11 and followed that with a 16-point second-half rally to win at Cloud County 77-73 on December 14.
Hutchinson currently sits in a tie for fifth place in the KJCCC at 4-3. The Blue Dragons are tied with Pratt, 3.5 games behind league front-runner Cowley.
Sophomore guard Jaquez Thornton is the Blue Dragons' leading scorer at 17.7 points per game, which is sixth in the KJCCC. Thornton is averaging 18.6 points per game in KJCCC games this season.
Thornton had 27 points to lead the Blue Dragons to their come-front-behind victory on December 14 at Cloud County. The Blue Dragons trailed by 16 points in the first minute of the second half and outscored the Thunderbirds 51-31 over the final 19 minutes of the game, shooting 56.7 percent in the second half.
Cowley enters Saturday's game on a 10-game winning streak. The Tigers' only loss this season was to No. 12 NEO 75-68 on November 9 in Arkansas City. Cowley's biggest win came on November 30 at Barton, defeating the No. 1 Cougars 74-71. The Tigers held off Coffeyville in their final game before the holiday break for a 74-72 victory.
Saturday's game will be the 139th all-time meeting between Hutchinson and Cowley. The Dragons are 90-48 all-time against Cowley, but the Tigers have won 7 of the last 11 meetings between the two teams.
