A crazy final night of the regular season shook up the seeding for the 2023 Region VI Men's Basketball Tournament.
Hutchinson's 80-60 victory over Garden City and an unexpected Northwest Tech upset over Coffeyville meant that the Blue Dragons earned the No. 6 overall seed in the tournament that begins on Saturday across the state.
The Blue Dragons (19-11) will play host to No. 11 Northwest Tech (12-18) at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Sports Arena.
There will be no admission to Saturday's game. Fans are asked to enter through the East and West doors only on Saturday. The normal south entrance will be closed to patrons.
The Hutchinson-Northwest Tech winner will advance to the Region VI Quarterfinals against third-seed Barton. That game will be at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday in Great Bend.
The Blue Dragons swept the season series with Northwest Tech, but the games were very, very different determining the outcome.
The first game was January 4 in Goodland and the Blue Dragons had to hold on for a 90-87 victory over the Mavericks in the first game back from the holiday break in Goodland.
Six weeks later, the Blue Dragons dominated Northwest Tech 115-74 on February 18.
The Mavericks pulled the stunner on Wednesday and kept Coffeyville from a share of the Jayhawk Conference title with am 81-77 victory in Goodland.
