The Hutchinson Community College men's basketball team returns to the Sports Arena for a two-game homestand starting on Wednesday against the Cowley Tigers.

The game will be broadcast live on Blue Dragon flagship station KHUT-FM (102.9) and sister stations KWBW-AM/FM (1450/98.5) with Glen Grunwald (PBP) and Dan Naccarato (analyst) calling the action. The Blue Dragon Sports Network will provide the stream for the game starting at 7:15 p.m.

With eight games remaining in the 2022-23 regular season, all games are becoming critical if the Blue Dragons want to capture one of the coveted top-four Region VI Tournament seeds and a postseason opening-round bye.

Hutchinson is eighth in the 13-team Jayhawk Conference, just 1.5 games behind Garden City for fourth place. Right on the Dragons' tail just one game behind are both Cowley and Seward County.

The Blue Dragons will try to avoid a season sweep at the hands of the Tigers on Wednesday. Cowley defeated Hutchinson 111-95 on November 30 at Scott Auditorium in Arkansas City.

The Tigers shot 60 percent for the game and got a game-high 29 points from Mekhi Cameron to lead six players in double figures. Aaron Franklin scored 31 points to lead the Blue Dragons in the first meeting with the Tigers.

Hutchinson (14-8, 8-8 KJCCC) enters play on Wednesday after dropping its second-consecutive game, a 97-88 loss on Saturday at Barton. The game was tied at 75-all with 7 minutes to play in regulation time. Barton hit 17 of 22 free throws in the second half and pulled away for the victory.

Jayden Garrison led the Blue Dragons with 19 points and Antonio Green came off the bench to score 18 for the Dragons.

Cowley shot 55.0 percent in its 85-68 victory on Saturday over Northwest Tech. Cameron scored 27 points, hitting 7 of 10 3-point goals in the victory. The Tigers had 12 3-point goals. One week ago, Cowley dropped a 68-61 home matchup with Barton despite hitting 10 3-point goals.

The 2022-23 Blue Dragons have already climbed to No. 2 on the Hutchinson season 3-point chart. The Dragons have already hit 258 3-pointers for the season in 22 games. Only last year's Blue Dragons team has more, hitting 321 shots from distance in 35 games.

Head coach Tommy DeSalme will be coaching against his former team - DeSalme was at Cowley for 12 seasons - for the fourth time.
