Hutchinson Community College sophomore forward Matt Mayers' first career start as a Blue Dragon had another first attached to it – his first career double-double.

That performance landed the sophomore from Hastings-On-Hudson, New York the first Jayhawk Conference Division I Men's Basketball Player of the Week award for the season.

Mayers had career highs of 22 points and 11 rebounds in No. 17 Hutchinson's 89-71 season-opening victory over Seminole State on Friday night at the Sports Arena.
