Blue Dragon sophomore Tyler Brown signs with Brown University

Hutchinson CC Sports Information

Hutchinson Community College sophomore men's basketball player Tyler Brown has signed a national letter of intent to play at Ivy League school Brown University.

Brown is the third 2020 Blue Dragon sophomore to sign with for-year programs. Saquan Singleton signed with New Mexico and D.J. Mitchell signed with Florida International in April.

Brown is the second Blue Dragon to sign with an Ivy League school. The only other Blue Dragon to sign in the prestigious league is Rowdy Meeks, a member of the 1988 National Champion Blue Dragons, who signed with Cornell University.

A 6-foot-1 guard from Derby, Kansas, Brown was Hutchinson's third-leading scorer in the 2019-20 season at 12.8 points per game. He shot 43.0 percent overall and was Hutch's second-best 3-point shooter at 36.4 percent, hitting 56 of 154 attempts.

Brown was a 2020 All-Jayhawk West Honorable Mention selection.

Brown scored a career-high 26 points against Monroe College on November 15. He had a career-best six 3-pointers against Eastern Oklahoma State on November 1.

Playing sparingly through the first two-thirds of his freshman season, Brown joined the Blue Dragon starting line-up in Game 19 of the 2018-19 season and never left. Brown's entry into the starting lineup sparks the Blue Dragons all the way to the Region VI Tournament Championship game.

In 65 games as a Blue Dragon (45) starts, Brown averaged 8.8 points per game (569 points).

He was a career 39.3 percent shooter from 3-point range (92 of 234). His 92 career 3-pointers are the 16th most in Blue Dragon history. He ranks seventh in Blue Dragon history in 3-point percentage.

With Brown's signing, 46 Blue Dragon players have signed with four-year programs in head coach Steve Eck's 11 seasons at Hutchinson. Thirty-seven have signed with NCAA Division I programs.
