For the first time in six seasons, the NJCAA has selected a Hutchinson Community College men's basketball player as its Division I National Player of the Week.
The NJCAA announced on Wednesday that Blue Dragon freshman forward Majok Kuath was the National Player of the Week. Kuath, a freshman forward from Salt City Lake, was named the Jayhawk Conference Men's Division I Basketball Player of the Week on Tuesday.
Kuath is the first Blue Dragon since Kadeem Allen to win the national weekly honor in 2014. Allen was twice named the national player of the week in 2014.
Since entering the starting lineup on January 4 against Allen, Kuath has been a force in the paint for Hutchinson.
Last week in games against Kansas City and Allen, Kuath averaged 25.0 points, 12.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 2.0 steals and 1.5 blocked shots. He shot 83.3 percent overall and 81.8 percent from the foul line.
Against No. 20 Cowley, Kuath had career highs of 34 points and 15 rebounds, going 13 of 15 from the field and a perfect 8 of 8 from the line.
Over the four games since entering the starting line-up, Kuath is averaging Kuath averaging 26.8 points and 10.5 rebounds per game while shooting 78.4 percent (40 of 51).
