The Hutchinson Community College men's basketball team looks for its first consecutive victory since early December with a road trip to Garden City on Wednesday night.

The No. 25-ranked Blue Dragons (14-3, 5-3 Jayhawk West) will play Garden City (7-9, 1-6) at 8 p.m. at Conestoga Arena in Garden City.

The game will be broadcast live on Blue Dragon flagship station KHUT-FM (102.9) and on sister stations KWBW-AM/FM (1450/98.5) beginning at 7:50 p.m. with Glen Grunwald (play-by-play) and Daren Dunn (analyst) calling the action. The game will be streamed live on the Blue Dragon Sports Network at 7:50 p.m.

The Blue Dragons started the season with 11 consecutive victories. That streak ended with a 10-point loss at Butler on December 7. Since then, over the last six games, the Dragons have alternated wins and losses. Hutchinson comes off an 88-79 win on Monday night over Northwest Tech at the Sports Arena.

The Hutchinson-Garden City men's basketball series started in 1929 and has been continuous since its inception. Wednesday's game will be the 184th all-time meeting with Hutchinson holding a 135-49 series lead.

Last season, though, Garden City swept the Blue Dragons in a season for only the eighth time in series history. Garden City won 70-69 at the Sports Arena and then administered the third-worst loss in Blue Dragon history after a 93-58 win over Hutchinson at Conestoga Arena.

Still in the thick of the Jayhawk West race - Hutchinson trails Barton and Colby by one game in the standings - a new leader as emerged for the Blue Dragons in freshman Majok Kuath.

Named the Jayhawk Conference men's basketball Player of the Week on Tuesday, Kuath scored 28 points on 9 of 9 shooting and 10 of 13 from the free-throw line in the Blue Dragons' win over Northwest Tech on Monday. Since being inserted into the starting lineup four games ago, Kuath averaging 26.8 points and 10.5 rebounds per game while shooting 78.4 percent (40 of 51).

The Blue Dragons look to re-start one facet of their game that was so good in the first semester - 3-point shooting.

Hutchinson still leads the KJCCC in 3-point efficiency at 38.5 percent. Over the last two games, Hutch is just 6 of 27 from distance (22.2 percent).

Garden City has dropped six games in a row, falling 78-73 on Monday night at Seward County. The Busters have lost 4 of those 6 games by nine or fewer points.

Tahlik Chavez scored 20 points to pace the Busters against Seward County. Garden City knocked down 9 of 18 from 3-point range, but shot 39.3 percent overall. Becoming eligible at the semester, center Michael Frazier added 15 points and seven rebounds.
