Hutchinson Community College freshman guard D.J. Mitchell was named the Jayhawk Conference Division I Men's Basketball Player of the Week on Tuesday.
After a somewhat off-shooting night in a 20-point effort at Dodge City, Mitchell was nearly perfect in a 95-76 home victory over Colby on Saturday.
The 6-foot-3 guard from Washington, DC, averaged 18.5 points, hitting 7 of 12 3-pointers last week.
He scored 17 points, going 6 of 6 from the field and 4 of 4 from 3-point range in the victory over the Trojans.
Mitchell is Hutch's second-leading scorer at 16.0 points per game and he ranks fifth in the Jayhawk Conference in free-throw percentage at 81.8 percent.
Mitchell is the second Blue Dragon this season to win the league's weekly award. James Rojas won in Week 2 in November.
