DRAGONS EARN 2ND WIN OF SEASON OVER NOC-ENID

The Hutchinson Community College men's basketball team rebounded for a sub-par performance in an overtime win last Saturday to dominate NOC-Enid for the second time this month.

The No. 9 Blue Dragons reached 100 points for the fifth time this season to defeat the Jets 105-69 on Tuesday in the first home games for Hutchinson since November 3.

Hutchinson improves to 8-0 and finishes a season sweep of NOC-Enid, defeating the Jets 109-68 on November 6 in Enid. The Dragons outscored the Jets 214-137 in those two games this season. The Jets fall to 1-7.

The Blue Dragons took care of business early in building a 29-9 lead after a James Rojas dunk with 10:39 to play in the first half. Hutch shot 50 percent (21 of 42) and held NOC-End to 28.2 percent (11 of 39) in the first 20 minutes and led 51-29 by halftime.

The Dragons doubled up the Jets on the boards, outrebounding the Jets 62-30 with 21 offensive boards. The 62 rebounds are a season high and are the third-most in modern-day Blue Dragon single-game history.

The Dragons limited NOC-Enid to 32.9 percent overall shooting (25 of 76), hitting 9 of 37 from 3-point range and 10 of 13 from the foul line. The Jets had 13 turnovers.

Rojas poured in a game-high 23 points on 8 of 13 shooting with a 3-pointer. Rojas also had eight rebounds and four steals.

Malique Jacobs and D.J. Mitchell came off the bench to lead a huge 57-23 Hutch advantage off the bench. Jacobs scored 18 points on 8 of 11 shooting with three assists and two steals in 23 minutes. Mitchell had 17 points and six rebounds.

Chris Giles had 11 points. Boubacar Kammisoko had nine points, seven rebounds and two blocked shots. Fred Odhiambo finished with eight points, eight rebounds and three blocks. Josh Perkins had eight points.

Saquan Singleton finished with six points, but had nine rebounds and six assists.

Hutchinson hit 40 of 82 total shots (48.8 percent), hitting 5 of 16 from 3-point range and 20 of 24 from the free-throw line. The Dragons had 24 assists to 12 turnovers. The Blue Dragons outscored NOC-Enid 62-29 in points in the paint and 27-10 in second-chance points.

Rance Kendrick had 14 points and Romio Harvey had 12 points to lead NOC-Enid.
