Since returning from the Christmas break, the Hutchinson Community College men's basketball team has been in a January lull.

Starting the season 12-1, the Blue Dragons have dropped 2 of their last 4 games as the second half of the Jayhawk Conference season begins on Wednesday.

The Blue Dragons open the KJCCC's second half with Seward County, team that's won 4 of its last 6 games.

Tipoff is 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the Sports Arena. The game will be broadcast live on Blue Dragon flagship station KHUT-FM (102.9) and sister stations KWBW-AM/FM (1450/98.5) beginning at 7:20 p.m. with Glen Grunwald (play by play) and Rusty Hilst (analysis) calling the action. The game will also be videostreamed live on the Blue Dragon Sports Network at 7:20 p.m.

The Blue Dragons enter Wednesday's game 14-3 overall and one out of first place in the Jayhawk at 10-3. Hutchinson was upset by Dodge City on Saturday, falling 72-70 after squelching a 10-point second-half lead. The Blue Dragons went 8 full minutes without a field goal and missed just 6 of 8 free throws in the final 6 minutes.

The Saints have won 4 of 6 games despite dropping a 68-60 overtime decision to Garden City on Saturday in Liberal.

Hutchinson won the first meeting of the season on November 11 in Liberal, a 76-69 win in the conference opener for both teams. The Blue Dragons shot only 33 percent and trailed 35-29 at halftime. Hutch improved to 50 percent in the second half and outscored the Saints 47-34 in the second period. J.J. Rhymes had 21 points and Devonte Bandoo added 15 points. Bandoo, Rhymes and Tiylar Cotton combined for eight 3-pointers.

Rhymes continues to lead the Jayhawk in scoring at 20.5 points per game. He had 30 points against Dodge City on Saturday. Bandoo is the only other Blue Dragon averaging in double figures at 14.5 points per game.

The Blue Dragons are averaging 87.2 points per game, shooting 47.4 percent overall and 37.8 percent from 3-point range.

The Saints are averaging 73.4 points per game, shooting 44.6 percent overall and 33.6 percent from 3-point range. Seward County defensively allows a league-best 62.9 points per game and 36.3 percent field-goal shooting. Opposing teams shoot 30.3 percent from long range.

Isaiah Small scores 13.8 points and shoots 56.8 percent from the field to lead Seward County. Ke'Sean Davis averages 13.7 points per game and shoots 40.7 percent on 3-point range.

Wednesday will be the second of four-straight home games for the Blue Dragons.
