The Hutchinson Community College football team opens its Jayhawk Conference on Saturday as the Dodge City Conquistadors come to Gowans Stadium to complete a three-game homestand.
The No. 1-ranked Blue Dragons (4-0, 0-0) play host to the No. 14 Dodge City Conquistadors (3-2, 1-1) at Noon Saturday for Educators Day with the Blue Dragons. All area educators, with their school identification, will be admitted free.
The Blue Dragons are the last KJCCC team to play a conference game this season. Saturday's game will be the 20th time that Hutchinson opens a conference season with Dodge City, the first since 2005. The Dragons are 10-9 against the Conquistadors in conference openers and 57-35 all-time in KJCCC openers. The Blue Dragons have won 14 of the last 15 conference openers.

Saturday's matchup will be the 94th meeting between Hutchinson and Dodge City, but just the second time with both as ranked teams. One year ago, the Blue Dragons were ranked No. 1 in the NJCAA rankings and Dodge City was No. 11. Hutchinson won that contest 46-10.
The Blue Dragons are off to a 4-0 start for the 12th time in program history. They got their fourth win of 2024 by tying a national scoring record in last Saturday's 99-0 victory over Ellsworth. Eight different Blue Dragons scored touchdowns, including four rushing touchdowns from Waymond Jordan Jr. The Dragons tied a team single-game defensive record with seven total turnovers, including interceptions returned for touchdowns by David Jester and Michael Graham.
The Blue Dragons bid for their 11th 5-0 start in program history.
Dodge City enters Saturday's game coming off a huge comeback victory against Iowa Central last Saturday at Memorial Stadium in Dodge City.
The Conquistadors trailed the Tritons 21-0 just 13 minutes, 47 seconds into the game. Dodge City then held Iowa Central to just three points over the final three quarters and scored the go-ahead touchdown - an Ahmir Culmer 19-yard touchdown reception from Gavynn - with 1:02 remaining in the fourth quarter to complete a 25-24 victory.
Hutchinson will be playing its third ranked opponent this season, already owning wins over No. 1 Iowa Western and No. 12 Iowa Central. Dodge City will be playing its third ranked opponent as well on Saturday. The Conquistadors lost at No. 2 Iowa Western and battled for a 9-6 win at No. 8 Highland on September 21.
After Saturday, the Blue Dragons will be play the next two games on the road, at Independence next Saturday and at Coffeyville on October 19.
