He only touched the ball nine times on Saturday, but Hutchinson Community College freshman running back Tyrell Reed Jr. made those touches count.

The freshman from Topeka had just nine carries for 171 yards and three touchdowns against Ellsworth in a 72-7 Blue Dragon victory on Saturday at Gowans Stadium.

One day after being named the KJCCC Offensive Player of the Week, Reed followed that honor with an NJCAA National Offensive Player of Week award, announced Wednesday.

This is the second-straight week a Blue Dragon has earned national player of the week honors. Tre Richardson was national Special Teams Player of the week.

Just four carries into his afternoon, Reed had 135 yards rushing on runs of 26, 39, 1 and 69 yards.

Reed scored on touchdowns of 26, 69 and 20 yards against the Panthers.

Reed is the first Blue Dragon to earn national Offensive Player of the Week honors since Dylan Kedzior last season.
