Hutchinson CC Sports Information
Former Hutchinson Community College defensive back Jakorian Bennett became the 13th former Hutchinson Community College football player to be selected in the NFL Draft on Saturday.
Bennett was drafted in the fourth round with the 104th overall selection by the Las Vegas Raiders. Bennett is the second Blue Dragon player drafted by the Raiders. The other was Jerome Love, who was taken by the Raiders in the eighth round of the 1973 NFL Draft.
After all 259 picks were announced at Kansas City's Union Station, four other former Blue Dragons were signed as Undrafted Free Agents – former cornerback Art Green was signed by the Denver Broncos, former receiver Mitchell Tinsley was signed by the Washington Commanders, former tight end Johnny Lumpkin was signed by the New England Patriots and former running back Tiyon Evans was signed by the Los Angeles Rams.
The Blue Dragons now have 47 players either drafted or signed as Undrafted Free Agents, 26 players have been chosen since 2010.
Jakorian Bennett (4th Round – Las Vegas Raiders)
Bennett, a 5-foot-11, 195-pound defensive back from Mobile, Alabama, is the seventh Blue Dragon to be drafted in the fourth round or earlier in program history.
Bennett played at Hutchinson in 2018 and 2019, earning first-team all-KJCCC honors in 2019.
Bennett had 25 total tackles, collecting 22 tackles in his sophomore season. Bennett had three tackles for loss in his Blue Dragon career. He added seven total takeaways – four fumble recoveries and three interceptions. Bennett returned one interception returns for a touchdown, a 57-yard pick-six against RPA.
After Hutchinson, Bennett transferred to the University of Maryland. He earned All-Big 10 honorable mention honors in both 2021 and 2022.
During his senior season with the Terrapins, Bennett tied for third in the Big 10 in passes broken up (11) and fifth in passes defended (13).
Over three seasons at Maryland, Bennett had 69 career tackles with four interceptions, 29 passes defended.
Art Green (UDFA – Denver Broncos)
Green, a 6-2, 200-pound defensive back from Chesterfield, Missouri, was a two-year starter for the Blue Dragons in 2018 and 2019.
As a freshman in 2018, Green was an all-Jayhawk Conference honorable mention selection after grabbing six interceptions with six passes broken up. Green had 19 total tackles. Green totaled 32 total tackles with eight career interceptions and 11 passes broken up. Green also blocked three kicks in two seasons with the Blue Dragons.
Green went to play at the University of Houston, playing in 31 total games over three seasons. He tallied 76 total tackles, including 59 solo stops. Green had three interceptions and 15 passes broken up with the Cougars. He was a second-team All-American conference players a freshman and was named the 2022 Independence Bowl Defensive Most Valuable Player.
Mitchell Tinsley (UDFA – Washington Commanders)
Tinsley played receiver for the Blue Dragons in 2018 and 2019, earning all-KJCCC honors in 2019 after a season where he caught 47 passes for 556 yards and four touchdowns. Tinsley also averaged 10.8 yards per return on 16 punt returns with two touchdowns.
Over his two seasons at Hutchinson, Tinsley had 57 total receptions for 656 yards and four touchdowns. He was a first-team all-KJCCC receiver and second-team All-Jayhawk return specialists.
Tinsley played at Western Kentucky in 2020 and 2021. Tinsley had 87 catches in 2021 for 1,402 yards and 14 touchdowns. Tinsley had 130 receptions in two seasons at WKU for 1,779 yards and 18 touchdowns.
At Penn State in 2022, Tinsley had 51 catches for 577 yards and five touchdowns.
Johnny Lumpkin (UDFA – New England Patriots)
Lumpkin played in 2017 for the Blue Dragons and had 11 receptions for 146 yards and two touchdowns.
The 6-foot-6, 260-pound tight end from Atlanta then played four seasons for the University of Louisiana. He had 36 receptions for 408 yards and six touchdowns. Lumpkin had 16 catches for 143 yards and four touchdowns in 2022.
Tiyon Evans (UDFA – Los Angeles Rams)
Evans played one season for the Blue Dragons in 2019 and had a big impact as both a running back and return specialist.
The 5-10, 235-pound back from Hartsville, South Carolina, ran for 538 yards and nine touchdowns in 2019. He led the KJCCC in kickoff returns in 2019 with an average of 33.8 yards per return and two touchdowns, including a 95-yard return against Iowa Western. Evans was a first-team all-KJCCC return specialist.
After Hutchinson, Evans transferred to Tennessee and eventually to Louisville. At Tennessee, Evans recorded 525 yards on the ground on 81 carries for six touchdowns along with four catches for 74 yards and a touchdown in seven games for the Vols in 2020. After sitting out in 2021, Evans ran for 525 yards and six touchdowns for the Cardinals.
