Hutchinson Community College running back Anwar Lewis and defensive back Deshon Singleton were recognized by the Jayhawk Conference as Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week after strong games against Highland on Saturday.

The Blue Dragons defeated Highland 20-7 at Porter Family Stadium last Saturday. Both Lewis and Singleton played major roles in that victory.

Lewis ran 26 times for 174 yards with a 38-yard touchdown to pace the Blue Dragons in the KJCCC road victory. The sophomore running back from Pensacola, Florida, posted his fourth-straight 100-yard game and moved up six spots to No. 13 on the Blue Dragon career rushing list. Lewis leads the Jayhawk Conference and is sixth in the nation in rushing with 826 yards and six touchdowns. Lewis has scored a touchdown in five straight games.

Singleton, a freshman safety from Amite, Louisiana, made biggest defensive play for the Blue Dragons on Saturday. Singleton intercepted a pass in the end zone late in the first half that kept a 13-point lead at 13 points. Had Highland scored, it would have been a one-possession game with Highland receiving the second-half kickoff. Singleton had a second interception in the third quarter to thwart another Scotty advance. In addition to his two tackles, Singleton had two solo tackles in the game.

Lewis and Singleton are the fourth and fifth Blue Dragon players earning KJCCC Weekly honors.

Kicker C.J. Moya, punter Alfonso Deleon and linebacker Martavius French have also been recognized.

The Blue Dragons travel to Dodge City on Saturday to complete the regular season schedule.
