The 2020-21 Jayhawk Conference champion Hutchinson Community College football team made a record haul of postseason awards on Tuesday.

The Blue Dragons had a total of 29 players and 30 total selections on the 2020-21 All-KJCCC football teams release on Tuesday.

The No. 1-ranked Blue Dragons also earned two of the three major league awards with head coach Drew Dallas being named the league's Coach of the Year and sophomore cornerback Roterius Torrence named the Defensive Player of the Year.

The 30 total selections shatter the old record of 23 all-conference players in a single season set by the 2012, 2018 and 2019 teams.

The 15 first-team selections topped the 2019 record of 10 players selected to the first team.

The offensive line and defensive secondary led the Blue Dragons by position. The offensive line garnered six all-conference selections and the cornerbacks and safeties had five players selected. Four special teams' players and four linebackers were named all-conference. The defensive line, receivers and running backs had three each with tight ends and quarterbacks having one player each.

This is the third-straight season a Blue Dragon has captured KJCCC Defensive Player of the Year honors. Torrence joins Latrell Bankston in 2019 and Monty Montgomery in 2018.

Torrence's numbers aren't eye-popping, but he earned the respect of the KJCCC coaches by allowing only one player to catch a pass against him this season. That happened to be Offensive Player of the Year, Eddie Lewis.

Torrence, 6-foot-3, 195-pound cornerback from Bessemer, Alabama, had 23 total tackles, five passes broken up and no interceptions this season, but he was hardly targeted over the final five games of the regular season.

Torrence played huge in Hutch's biggest gamest this season, including a season-high six tackles against Butler, five tackles and three passes broken up against No. 3 Garden City and four tackles against Independence.

Dallas was named the head coach of Blue Dragon football on December 31, 2019. He had to wait 471 days until he coached his first game on the Hutchinson sideline.

Because the season was pushed back to the spring semester because of the Coronavirus pandemic, Dallas didn't have a spring session in 2020. With all of that, the NJCAA tapped the Dragons has the No. 1 team in the country in the preseason rankings.

Dallas and the Blue Dragons have maintained that No. 1 ranking and will play Snow College on Saturday for the NJCAA National Championship.

The Blue Dragons went 7-0 in the first season under Dallas. Also the program's offensive coordinator, the Dragons are ranked no. 2 in the nation in scoring offense (47.4 ppg), No. 4 in total offense (467.3 ypg) and No. 2 in rushing offense (279,4 ypg). Defensively, the Dragons aren't bad either, ranking third in the NJCAA at 11.4 points per game allowed.

Dallas is off to the best start by a Blue Dragon head in the 89-year history of the program at 7-0.
