Hutchinson CC Sports Information

Off to a 6-1 record for the second-straight season, the Hutchinson Community College football team makes another upward move in the NJCAA Football Rankings to No. 4.

The Blue Dragons defeated their third nationally ranked opponent this season after a thrilling 16-13 win over No. 13 Highland on Sebastian Garcia's go-ahead 37-yard field goal with 15 seconds to play in the contest. That victory, combined with No. 2 Northwest Mississippi's 34-6 loss to No. 1 East Mississippi helped the Blue Dragons reach a spot in the rankings no reached since the final rankings of 2014.

The Top 5 is now East Mississippi, Garden City, Iowa Western, Hutchinson and Northwest Mississippi. East Mississippi got all 17 first-place votes for the fourth-straight week.

Two other teams from the Jayhawk Conference remain ranked. Butler (4-2) is at No. 16 and Highland (4-2) is at No. 18.

Hutchinson faces back-to-back road trips for the first time this season. The Blue Dragons travel to Coffeyville on Saturday and Dodge City on October 20. The Dragons are off on Oct. 27 before returning to Gowans Stadium to face Garden City.

The Blue Dragons have appeared in every regular-season poll this season since debuting in the Receiving Votes list in the preseason poll.
