Hutchinson CC Sports Information
The No. 11-ranked Hutchinson Community College football team plays its second Thursday Night game of the season tonight when RPA (formerly known as Rezolution Prep Academy) comes to Gowans Stadium for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
The game will be broadcast live on Blue Dragon flagship station KHUT-FM (102.9) and sister station KWBW-AM (1450) beginning at 6:30 p.m. with Countdown to Kickoff. Rusty Hilst (play-by-play), Rob Dreher (analysis) and Glen Grunwald (sidelines) will call the action. The game will also be videostreamed on the Blue Dragon Sports Network with the link available at 6:50 p.m.
The Blue Dragons play their fifth Thursday night team in program history. Hutchinson is 5-0 all-time on Thursday nights after a 30-12 season-opening victory over Ellsworth on August 23 at Gowans Stadium.
Hutchinson enters the game coming off one of its more dominant performances in a Jayhawk Conference game in several seasons. The Blue Dragons rolled up 573 total yards and held Fort Scott to just eight rushing yards in a 61-21 victory over the Greyhounds last Saturday at Gowans Stadium.
Blue Dragon freshman quarterback Mason Schucker threw for a career-high four touchdowns and freshman cornerback Art Green had a pair of interceptions to lead the Dragons defensively. Freshman kicker Sebastian Garcia kicked a team-record 48-yard field goal to cap a perfect day place-kicking for the Blue Dragons. Schucker, Green and Garcia were all named Jayhawk Conference players of the week and Garcia also earned NJCAA Special Teams National Player of the Week honors.
Under first-year coach Kirk Risby's Wildcats are 0-3 heading into the Thursday Night special against the Blue Dragons. RPA was defeated by Cicso College 99-0 in the season opener. The Wildcats then lost to the Hardin-Simmons JV 29-28 before dropping an 84-12 decision at No. 6 Blinn on Saturday.
One year ago, the Blue Dragons and Wildcats met at Gowans Stadium and the Blue Dragons set an NJCAA national scoring record in a 91-0 rout.
Entering play this week, Schucker is No. 2 in the Jayhawk Conference in passing average at 203.0 yards per game. He leads the league with seven touchdown passes. Receiver Jaylen Erwin is tied for the KJCCC lead in TD receptions with four. Clarence Hicks is second in the league in quarterback sacks with four.
