HCC Sports Information
While a nine-point loss to the No. 2 team in the country didn't do much damage to the Hutchinson Community College football team one week ago, the Blue Dragons are hoping to rebound on Saturday.
Hutchinson (2-1 overall, 1-0 Jayhawk Conference) looks to remain unbeaten on conference play and get a bit of revenge as the high-powered Fort Scott Greyhounds come to Gowans Stadium for a Noon kickoff.
The game will be broadcast live on Blue Dragon flagship station KHUT-FM (102.9) and sister station KWBW-AM (1450) beginning at 11:30 a.m. with Countdown to Kickoff. Rusty Hilst (play-by-play), Rob Dreher (analysis) and Glen Grunwald (sidelines) will call the action. The game will also be videostreamed on the Blue Dragon Sports Network with the link available at 11:50 a.m.
Hutchinson is one of four teams without a conference loss heading into Week 4 of the 2018 season. Garden City, Butler and Coffeyville are the other league unbeatens. The Dragons big to start lead play 2-0 for the second-straight year and for the eighth time in the Rion Rhoades' era
Last week's 33-24 loss to No. 2 Iowa Western at Gowans Stadium cost the Blue Dragons only one spot in the NJCAA Rankings.
Off last week, Fort Scott is 0-2 by a matter of just four combined points, losing a wild 50-47 shootout two weeks ago against Coffeyville.
The Blue Dragons will have to defend the Jayhawk Conference's No. 2 scoring offense in the Greyhounds and the NJCAA's No. 3 passer in Fort Scott quarterback Gunner Sea, who is averaging 303.5 yards per game with five touchdowns. Sea is completing 61 percent of his passes.
Last week, the Blue Dragons were stung by Iowa Western quarterback Clay Beathard, who threw for 296 yards and three touchdowns.
Three games into his Blue Dragon career, freshman quarterback Mason Schucker is making great strides. Schucker had his first 300-yard game last week, throwing for 324 yards and two touchdowns. Schucker is third in the Jayhawk in passing.
One year ago, Fort Scott upset the Blue Dragons 29-24 in Gowans Stadium. Trailing by 19 points with 10:34 to go in the fourth quarter, the Blue Dragons scored two quick touchdowns and had another possession for a potential game-winning drive, but the Fort Scott Greyhounds held on to win.
