Freshman cornerback Jerry Jacobs became the fourth-straight Hutchinson Community College football player to earn Jayhawk Conference Football Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Jacobs, a 6-foot, 180-pound defensive back from Kennesaw, Georgia, made some significant plays in a defensive-dominated 13-10 double-overtime victory for the Blue Dragons over Highland on Saturday at Gowans Stadium.

Jacobs had two tackles, an interception and five passes broken up as Hutchinson's defense held Highland to just 23 yards and three first downs through the first three quarters.

Jacobs' five passes broken up were a season high with 4 of those 5 breakups coming on third down. His interception was his second of the year.

Jacobs joins Quen Head, Drew Harvey and Guy Victoria as Blue Dragon defensive players to be recognized. Overall, six Blue Dragon players have earned Jayhawk Conference Player of the Week honors in 2017.

Jacobs will now be eligible for NJCAA national honors. That will be announced Wednesday afternoon.
