HutchCC Sports Information

Fresh off the largest comeback victory in team history, the Hutchinson Community College football team hits the road for the first time to face No. 12 Iowa Western on Saturday.

Kickoff at Lewis Central High Schools Titan Stadium is 1 p.m. in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

The game will be broadcast live on Blue Dragon flagship station KHUT-FM (102.9) and sister stations KWBW-AM/FM (1450/98.5). The veteran broadcast staff of Glen Grunwald (play-by-play) and Daren Dunn (analysis) will call the action. The broadcast begins at 12:30 p.m. with Countdown to Kickoff.

The game will also be videostreamed on the Blue Dragon Sports Network (www.bluedragonsports.com).

Down 25-0 after 21 minutes last Saturday against Coffeyville, the Blue Dragons roared back to defeat the Red Ravens 50-42 at Gowans Stadium. The Dragons trailed 39-23 in the third quarter, but scored the game's final 21 points to complete the comeback.

The big-play component to the Blue Dragons passing game returns as quarterback Cam Jones threw three touchdown passes against the Ravens. Two went to Jayhawk Conference Offensive Player of the Week Jaylen Erwin, who caught three passes for 116 yards and the go-ahead TD in the fourth quarter.

No. 12 Iowa Western needed no such playoff in its season opener. The Reivers racked up 732 total yards in a 70-21 decimation of Independence last Saturday.

Iowa Western racked up 397 passing yards, 335 rushing yards and 10 total touchdowns, while holding the Pirates to a negative-17 yards rushing.

One year ago at Gowans Stadium, the Blue Dragons and Reivers hooked up in one of the most bizarre games ever. The Blue Dragons won 21-12 - Hutchinson's first-ever win in the series with Iowa Western - but did so with three safeties and a Ronheen Bingham fumble return for a touchdown on the game's final play.

Blue Dragon head coach Rion Rhoades will bid for his 75th victory on the Hutchinson sideline. The dean of Jayhawk Conference coaches is 74-40 in his 11th season at Hutch.

This is the first of two-straight non-conference games for the Blue Dragons. Next Saturday Rezolution Prep comes to Gowans before a road trip on Sept. 16 to Garden City.
