Former Blue Dragon catcher Scott Wolverton is in his second season as a Blue Dragon assistant coach. He returned to the Blue Dragons before the 2023 season.

Wolverton, a native of Seward Nebraska, played for the Blue Dragons as a catcher for head coach Ryan Schmidt in 2017 and 2018.

In 71 total games for Hutchinson, Wolverton hit .296 with 59 career hits, 16 doubles, six triples and seven home runs. Wolverton amassed 47 RBIs and scored 48 runs. Defensively behind the plate, Wolverton threw out 22.5 percent of would-be basestealers.

Wolverton went to Morehead State University in 2019. Playing in 10 games, Wolverton hit .250 in limited duty. He had a season-high three hits against NJIT on March 2, 2019.

Wolverton closed out his playing career with two seasons at the University of Central Missouri, playing former Blue Dragon head coach Kyle Crookes.

Wolverton was part of The Mules’ 2021 MIAA regular-season and tournament championship teams as well as the NCAA Division II Central Region Tournament championship and the 2021 national runners-up. Wolverton hit .391 with six home runs and 26 RBIs in 2021 and didn’t commit a defensive error.

In two seasons at UCM, Wolverton hit .351 with 47 total hits, six homers and 30 RBIs.

Wolverton graduated from Seward High School in 2016 and Hutchinson Community College in 2018 with an Associate of Science degree. He graduated from the University of Central Missouri in 2023 with a bachelors of Agricultural and Science with focus on Agronomy degree.
