COFFEYVILLE – Freshman Anthony Mazza had three hits and three pitchers combined to hold Coffeyville to four hits as the No. 21-ranked Hutchinson Community College baseball team to a 6-2 victory in Game 3 of a four-game series over the Coffeyville Red Ravens on Saturday at Walter Johnson Park.
Game 2 was frustrating for the Blue Dragons as they stranded 12 runners on base, including leaving the bases loaded in the seventh and eighth innings, in a 2-0 loss to the Red Ravens in the series finale on Saturday.
The Blue Dragons (11-2) and Red Ravens (9-2) split their four-game series. The Dragons travel to play Hesston College on a single nine-inning game on Tuesday in Hesston. Hutchinson then opens Jayhawk West play on Thursday in Dodge City.
Mazza had hits in both games on Saturday to extend his hitting streak to 13 games.
GAME 1 RECAP – Hutchinson 6, Coffeyville 2
Leading 3-2 entering the seventh inning, the Blue Dragons loaded the bases with no out. C.J. Reid hit a sacrifice fly to score Mazza, then pinch-hitter Scotty Fegen delivered a two-out, two-run double that gave the Dragons a 6-2 lead.
That gave three Blue Dragon pitchers plenty of run support.
Jake Wolcott (1-0) started and got his first win as a Blue Dragon. Wolcott allowed two hits and one run with three strikeouts and two walks in four full innings. Seth Ainsworth allowed one run and one hit with two strikeouts. Collin Flores had a strikeout in a scoreless seventh inning.
The Blue Dragons out-hit Coffeyville 11-4.
Mazza went 3 for 4 for his 10th multi-hit game of the season. He had an RBI double in the third inning that tied the game at 1-1.
A.J. Mustow went 2 for 4 with a run scored.
Tied at 1-1 after three innings, the Dragons took a 3-1 lead in the fourth when Jarrett Herrmann hit an opposite-field RBI single to left that scored Mustow and Leo Griffin's sacrifice fly to center scored Nick Glantz.

The Blue Dragons suffered their first shutout in an 11-0 loss to Fort Scott in the Region 6 Tournament on May 10, 2023
The Dragons were limited to four hits, but had 17 total baserunners thanks to 10 Coffeyville walks. The Dragons stranded 12 runners on base.
Quinn Maher, Mazza, Herrmann and Eli Duncan had the only hits in the game,
Three Blue Dragon pitchers held Coffeyville to four hits and two runs.
Karter Chamberlain pitched one inning in his first start and retired the Ravens in order. Lachlan Rosser (0-1) pitched six strong innings, allowing three hits, two runs and one earned run. He struck out three and walked three. Reece Usselman struck out two in a scoreless inning.
Coffeyville scored a pair of runs with two out, plating an unearned run in the fourth and an insurance run in the seventh inning.
