Blue Dragon sophomore starter Bradley Neill came up with a huge performance when the Blue Dragons needed it, twirling a one-hit complete-game shutout of the Butler Grizzlies on Saturday at Hobart-Detter Field.
Neill, a 6-foot-1 sophomore right-hander from Buhler, was named the Jayhawk West Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday.
After dropping the first three games of a four-game conference series to Butler last week, Neill stepped up in the season finale to lead Hutchinson to a 14-0 victory.
Neill retired the first 13 batters he faced before allowing a one-out single in the fifth. That baserunner was immediately erased on a line-drive double play.
Neill needed 89 pitches in the complete-game performance. He allowed only two baserunners, hitting a battler. Neill struck out a career-high eight batters.
Neill is the fifth Blue Dragon player and fourth Hutchinson pitcher to earn conference weekly honors this season.
