MIDWEST CITY, Oklahoma – One day after being held to a season-low three hits, the Hutchinson Community College baseball team unleashed an offensive onslaught on the Rose State Raiders on Saturday.

The Blue Dragons combined for 31 runs and 31 hits in Games 2 and 3 of a three-game series against Rose State. Hutchinson defeated the Raiders 17-0 in five innings in Game 1 and 14-2 in the second game to win the three-game series 2 games to 1.

The Blue Dragons improve to 4-2 for the season. Hutchison travels to Waco, Texas next weekend to take on Frank Phillips College and two games against McLennan College.

Sophomore Ben McLaughlin had a huge day with a combined 6-for-8 performance with eight RBIs to lead the Blue Dragon offense.

Blue Dragon pitchers were equally strong on Saturday, allowing just two runs and seven hits combined with a combined 12 strikeouts.

GAME 1 RECAP
McLaughlin's third home run of the season highlighted a four-run first inning. The Blue Dragons then exploded for a 10-run second inning.

The Dragons sent 14 batters to the plate in that second inning, the 11th time in the Ryan Schmidt era the Dragons have had 10 or more runs in an inning. Hutchinson led 14-0 after two innings.

Four different Blue Dragons had multi-hit games as Hutchinson racked up 14 total hits, including five extra base hits.

McLaughlin went 3 for 4 with four RBIs to lead the Blue Dragons offensively in the opening game. He hit his third home run in the first inning. He added RBI singles in the second and fifth innings.

Will Edmunson had his first three-hit game as a Blue Dragon, going 3 for 5 with two doubles, two runs scored and an RBI.

Cade Baker and Hunter Gotreaux each had two hits. Gotreaux added a triple.

Jon Jenkins also had three RBIs in the game.

Ben Dandelet had his first career pitching start for the Blue Dragons. He got into a jam in the first by walking the bases loaded, but escaped with no runs allowed. Dandelet worked two innings with two strikeouts and one hit allowed.

Chase Torkelson threw three shutout innings for the pitching win. He allowed three hits and struck out four.

GAME 2 RECAP
The Blue Dragons tallied 16 hits off seven Rose State pitchers in the second game. Hutchinson scored two runs in the second, five in the fourth, three in the seventh and four runs in the ninth.

Gotreaux was 4 for 4 with a double, three runs scored and an RBI to pace the Blue Dragons.

McLaughlin was 3 for 5 with RBIs and two runs.

Edmunson was 2 for 5 with a season-high four RBIs Jenkins also had two hits.

McLaughlin, Edmunson and Jenkins all had doubles.

Jack Whitlock evened his seven record at 1-1 with five strong innings. He allowed two hits and one unearned run with two strikeouts and a walk.

Reed Scott allowed an unearned run in one inning of relief.

Brady Beverman, Zane Covey and Kaden Wickersham all scoreless single innings of relief.
