The bottom line from Saturday is that the Hutchinson Community College baseball team's doubleheader at Hobart-Detter Field is that the Blue Dragons lost two games and wound up splitting a four-game series with Coffeyville.

How Saturday's games losses transpired were simply painful for the Blue Dragons.

Coffeyville rallied to defeat Hutchinson 10-8 in the first game on Saturday and third game in the series. The Red Ravens then scored 16 runs in the seventh inning of Game 2 and run-ruled the Blue Dragons 22-7 to sweep the doubleheader and split the series.

The Blue Dragons fall to 4-5 overall and just 2-4 at Hobart-Detter Field. Hutchinson travels to State Fair Community College in Sedalia, Missouri on Tuesday before opening Jayhawk West play on Thursday against Barton at Hobart-Detter Field. Coffeyville improves to 3-4.

GAME 1 RECAP
Hutchinson trailed 8-4 after 4 1/2 innings in the first game on Saturday, but rallied with a four-run fifth. Ben McLaughlin hit a three-run home run and Mason Lowe tied the game with an RBI double.

Coffeyville took advantage of a shaky Blue Dragon bullpen with single runs in the sixth and seventh innings. Jayden Key had the go-ahead hit with two out in the sixth and Luis Mendoza, who had five RBIs, doubled home the insurance run in the seventh.

Sammy Sanchez took the loss for the Blue Dragons, allowing three runs, one earned and three hits in 1 1-3 innings of relief. Ryan Schlotzhauer struck out a season-high 10 in 4 1-3 innings. The Blue Dragon bullpen gave up four runs, three hits and three walks.

Coffeyville out-hit the Blue Dragons 7-5 in the first game.

Lowe and Will Reetz doubled to go with McLaughlin's home run. McLaughlin had three RBIs and Jack Torosian drove in two runs.

GAME 2 RECAP
The 22 runs allowed in Game 2 were the second-most ever surrendered in team history. The 16-run seventh inning was the biggest inning ever allowed in Blue Dragon history, topping a 15-run inning against Butler in 2017.

The Blue Dragons trailed 6-2 early but rallied for five unanswered runs and look a 7-6 lead in the sixth inning on a Will Reetz RBI double that scored McLaughlin.

The first five Red Ravens reached to start the seventh and things went from bad to worse for the Blue Dragons. Coffeyville sent 21 batters to the plate in the seventh and scored 16 runs on 11 hits with three walks, two errors and two hit batsmen.

The Blue Dragons used five pitchers in the seventh inning. Caden Pogue was issued the loss.

Blue Dragon pitching for the game allowed five walks and hit four batters. The Dragons defense committed five errors. Fifteen of the 22 runs allowed were unearned.

McLaughlin went 3 for 3 with a double and three runs scored to lead the Blue Dragons. Lowe and Will Reetz had two RBIs each.
