MT. PLEASANT, Texas – Sophomore Mike Brown threw 5 2-3 innings of shutout relief to lift the Hutchinson Community College baseball team to a 6-3 victory over Northeast Texas on Saturday in the middle game of a three-game weekend series.

The Blue Dragons improve to 3-1 overall with the final game of the series to be at noon on Sunday.

With Hutch leading 5-3 in the fourth, Brown entered the game with two runners on and one out. Brown worked out of the jam with a strikeout and ground out. From that point, Brown allowed just four base runners. Two of those came on an error and walk to start the fifth, but Brown coaxed a ground ball double play and another ground out to end the inning.

Brown (1-0) threw 85 pitches over 5 2-3 scoreless innings. He allowed just one hit while striking out six and walking one. Brown took over for starter Matt Delcambre, who worked 3 1-3 innings after allowing three hits, three runs and four walks with four strikeouts.

Offensively, Logan Sartori and Max McGuire both homered to lead Hutchinson's seven-hit attack.

Sartori hit a two-out solo home run in the top of the first to give the Dragons a 1-0. After a the Eagles tied the game with a home run, McGuire homered to left field in the top of the second for a 2-1 Hutch lead.

The Blue Dragons tacked on three more runs in the third. Zane Schmidt singled home Dylan Nedved. Then with the bases loaded, a two-base error off the bat of Zach Baxley scored Schmidt and Sartori to make it 5-1.

Leading 5-3 into the sixth, the Dragons picked up an insurance run when Nedved singled in McGuire for a three-run lead.

Seven different Blue Dragons had hits. Sartori and McGuire scored two runs each. Will Reetz also had a double.
