WICHITA – Missing on a couple of early scoring chances, the Hutchinson Community College Baseball Team saw its 2018 season come to a close on Monday at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.

Barton Cougars' pitcher Andrew Repp blanked the Blue Dragons on four hits as Hutchinson dropped an 8-0 decision in the Region VI/Central District Tournament Loser's Bracket Final on Monday night.

The Blue Dragons close out their season at 39-22. Hutch was one game under .500 at 7-8 on March 8. From that point, the Blue Dragons went 31-14 for the remainder of the season.

Hutchinson had won their previous five elimination games in the 2018 postseason, including three games at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.

In both the first and third innings, the Dragons had runners at first and third with one out. The Dragons rolled into inning-ending double plays in both innings.

Barton, the 2018 Jayhawk West champion, took advantage of its lone scoring opportunity in the first six innings, taking advantage of two Blue Dragon errors. The Cougars sent 12 batters to the plate in the third and scored six runs, five were unearned.

Ryan Summers earned the start and tossed two perfect innings before the decisive third inning. Matt Hopkins worked one-third of an inning. Zach Philbin worked a season-long four innings with a season-high five strikeouts, allowing four hits and two runs.

Barton finished off the Blue Dragons with a pair of runs in the seven to invoke the eight-run rule after seven innings.

Over Hutchinson's last 23 innings heading into Monday's game, the Blue Dragons were hitting .370. Repp shut down the Dragons on Monday. Brock Schaffer, Wyatt Divis, Bobby Morgensen and Zach Baxley tallied the Dragon hits. Baxley's sixth-inning double means that he will carry a nine-game hitting streak into next season.

Barton out-hit the Blue Dragons 10-4.
