WICHITA – The Hutchinson Community College baseball team ran its record to 4-0 in elimination games in the postseason with a 12-8 victory on Sunday morning over Seward County in the 2018 Region VI/Central District Baseball Tournament at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.

The Blue Dragons improve to 38-21 overall and advance to tonight's 7 p.m. elimination game against either Kansas City or Johnson County.

Hutchinson led 7-0 after five innings as starter Miguel Reyes allowed just one it over that span. The Saints came to life with four runs in the sixth and four more in the eighth to trim the Blue Dragon lead to one at 9-8.

The Blue Dragons responded to every Saints challenge. After Seward's four-run sixth cut the Dragon lead to 7-4, Hutchinson took advantage of two Saints errors to score two in the bottom of the sixth and lead 9-4.

With Hutch's lead at 9-8 in the eighth, sophomore Bobby Morgensen smashed a three-run home run to right field to rebuild a four-run lead and cap a five-RBI game for the Hutchinson left fielder.

Dylan Nedved pitched the final 1 1-3 innings to close out the Saints for his third save of the season. Seward County finishes its season at 30-30.

Reyes earned his team-high eighth win (8-2) with 5 2-3 innings of work. He struck out five and walked three while giving up five hits and four earned runs. Dayden Lane worked two innings in relief with three hits and three earned runs, including a home run. He threw one-hit shutout ball over the first five innings.

Nedved allowed two hits and one run with a pair of strikeouts.

Scott Wolverton had a seven total-base game going 3 for 3 with two doubles and his fourth triple of the season to lead Hutchinson's 12-hit attack. Wolverton scored a run.

Logan Sartori had his second-straight three-hit game, going 3 for 5 with three runs scored.

Morgensen was just 1 for 3, but his season-high five RBIs came on an RBI groundout, sacrifice fly and three-run home run. Nedved went 2 for 5. Julian Rip drove in two runs, going 1 for 3 with a triple.

The Dragons had five extra-base hits.

After a three-run eighth and 13-run ninth against Neosho County on Saturday, the Blue Dragon offense kept on clicking early on Sunday with at least one run scored in their first four innings against the Saints.

Combined over two days, the Dragons scores 23 runs over those six innings.

RBI groundouts in the first innings by Wyatt Divis and Morgensen gave Hutch a 2-0 lead. Rip's sacrifice fly in the second scored Garrett Stephens for a 3-0 after two innings. Zach Baxley extended his hitting streak to seven games with an RBI single in the third for a 4-0 lead.

Wolverton and Rip led off the fourth with back-to-back triples. Rip scored on his hit after Seward County bobbled the cutoff allowing him to go home. Morgensen then drove in a run with the Saints' second error of the inning to give Hutch a 7-0 lead.
