The Hutchinson Community College baseball team opened the 2018 season with a three-game series against the Coffeyville Red Ravens.

Beginning Friday, the Blue Dragons and Red Ravens will open the postseason against each other in the Region VI Tournament Opening-Round best-of-3 series.

Friday's game time is at 2 p.m. at Hobart-Detter Field. Saturday and Sunday's if necessary game will be at 1 p.m. at Hobart-Detter Field. All games will be video streamed on the Blue Dragon Sports Network.

The Blue Dragons (34-19) tied Colby for third place in the Jayhawk West this season, but lost the head-to-head tie-breaker to the Trojans to earn the fourth seed out of the West for the Region VI Tournament. Hutchinson has won 10 of 12.

Coffeyville (27-24) finished fifth in the Jayhawk East with an 18-18 record. The Ravens have lost four in a row and are 4-6 in their last 10 games.

The Blue Dragons took 2 of 3 games from the Red Ravens during that season-opening weekend at Walter Johnson Park in Coffeyville.

The Blue Dragons are hitting .326 and have hit 79 home runs this season.

Sophomore Wyatt Divis is hitting a team-high .390 with team highs of 15 home runs and 54 RBIs. Freshman Dylan Nedved is hitting .366 with five homers and 32 RBIs. Sophomore Brock Schaffer is at .343, freshman Zach Baxley is at .341 and freshman Logan Sartori is hitting .340 with nine homers, 51 RBIS and 15 stolen bases.

Sophomore Bobby Morgensen, who became Hutch's career RBI leader last week vs. Seward County, is hitting .339 with 10 homers and 49 RBIs.

Hutch has seen its team ERA slowly drop from an early-season slump, now at 5.92 with opposing teams hitting a combined .283.

Mike Brown, Friday's probable Game 1 starter, is 5-2 with a 4.18 ERA. Dayden Lane is tops out of the bullpen with a record of 2-2 and a 2.53 ERA with four saves.

Coffeyville's team ERA is 7.08 and opponents are hitting .304 against the Ravens for the season.

Since 2004, when the current Region VI Tournament format changed to its current system, Hutch and Coffeyville have met four times

The Dragons defeated Coffeyville in 2008 in three games at Hobart-Detter Field and then swept the Ravens in 2009. Coffeyville defeated Hutch twice in the 2011 Liberal sub-regional and again swept the Blue Dragons in a best-of-3 opening round series in 2013 in Coffeyville.

The Hutchinson-Coffeyville winner will meet the Cowley-Garden City winner at 4 p.m. on Friday, May 11 at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium in Wichita.
