BLUE DRAGONS FALL TO COWLEY

ARKANSAS CITY - The Hutchinson Community College baseball team gave up a pair of three-run innings in the latter stages of the game and fell to the defending Region VI Champion Cowley Tigers 9-3 on Tuesday at City Ballpark.

Tuesday's game was originally scheduled for Hobart-Detter Field, but was switch to Arkansas City because of unplayable field conditions. The rematch is set for Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Hobart-Detter Field.

The Blue Dragons never led in the back, but trailed only 3-1 after 5 1/2 innings. In the sixth, the Tigers took advantage of three walks and a Blue Dragon error to produce a three-run inning to take a 6-1 lead. The Tigers tacked on three more in the eighth.

Hutchinson's first run came in the sixth when Zion Bowlin singled, moved to second on a passed ball and move up on a pair of groundouts. Bowlin scored on Brock Schaffer's groundout to second base. The Dragons scored two runs in the seventh on a Bobby Morgensen groundout and Garrett Stephens RBI single.

The Blue Dragons were out-hit 14-8 and had no extra-base hits.

Stephens and Ryan Stoecklein led the way offensively with two hits each. Dyland Nedved, Logan Sartori, Bowlin and Ryan Moritz had the other hits for the Dragons. Morgensen, Stephens and Schaffer had RBIs.

Ryan Junker started and took the loss for the Blue Dragons, pitching 4 1-3 innings. He allowed nine runs on three hits and three earned runs. Hutch also used Gage Wall, Zach Philbin, Zach Moore, Jose Vasquez and Grady Kirkhart out of the bullpen.

The Blue Dragons return to Jayhawk West play on Thursday at first-place Barton at 1 p.m. at Lawson-Biggs Field in Great Bend.
