COFFEYVILLE –Day No. 2 of the 2018 college baseball season was up and down for the seventh-ranked Hutchinson Community College Blue Dragons on Friday.

After rallying to force extra innings and taking a one-run lead, the Blue Dragons saw Coffeyville rally for two runs and walk off for a 7-6 victory in Game 1 of a doubleheader at Walter Johnson Park.

But freshman Logan Sartori had four hits and four RBIS to lead the Blue Dragons to a 10-1 victory in the series finale to take the opening weekend series with the Red Ravens 2-1.

GAME 2 RECAP
After a disappointing finish to the earlier game on Friday, Sartori wasted no time in rekindling the Blue Dragon offense in Game 2. Sartori doubled in Wyatt Divis as part of a two-run inning and eventually a season-high 15-hit attack.

Sartori went 4 of 4 with three doubles, two runs and four RBIs to lead the Blue Dragon in Game two. Satori was on base all five times in the second game. His second double, which came in the third inning, drove in two to help the Dragons to a 9-0 lead after three innings. He doubled again in the fifth for a 10-0 lead.

Right behind Sartori in the batting order was Dylan Nedved, who went 3 for 4 with two RBIs.

Sophomore Garrett Stephens also went 3 for 4 with three RBIs.

That gave freshman starter Mason Palmier plenty of run support in his Blue Dragon debut. Palmier worked the first four innings off three-hit shutout ball. Palmier struck out three and walked none.

Grady Kirkhart, Mike Brown and Dayden lane all pitched one inning each in relief. Kirkhart had one strikeout and two walks but no hits or runs. Brown allowed two hits and one run. Lane worked a 1-2-3 seventh to a strikeout to finish the game.

GAME 1 RECAP
Hutchinson trailed 5-2 entering its final at-bat of Game 1on Friday. The Dragons rallied with a two-run single by Bobby Morgensen and a game-tying sacrifice fly by Sartori to tie the game at 7.

The Dragons took a 6-5 lead in the eighth of the scheduled seven-inning game when sophomore Brock Schaffer doubled home pinch-runner Crit Williams. Two batters later Morgensen singled again, but Schaffer was thrown out at the plate trying to score an insurance run.

The Dragons could have used it. The Raven parlayed an error and hit batsman into and walkoff victory.

Morgensen had the only multi-hit game of Game 1 for the Blue Dragons, who were limited to a season-low six hits. Schaffer, Wyatt Divis, Nedved and Riley Metzger had the other Dragon hits. Metzger's hit was a double.

Divis had a no-decision in his first start of the season. He worked four innings and allowed six hits, three earned runs and walked one while striking out six.

Miguel Reyes took the loss in working 3 1-3 innings with four strikeouts and two hits. Reyes surrendered only one earned run as Hutchinson committed two errors.

The Blue Dragons open a three-game series on Friday in Mount Pleasant, Texas against Northeast Texas. The Dragons will play three single games next weekend.
