Rusty Laverentz is the assistant athletic director at Hutchinson Community College. He started his tenure at Hutchinson on June 3, 2024.
Laverentz has extensive experience in athletic administration at both the team and athletic department levels.
Laverentz came to HutchCC after serving two years as the athletic director at Missouri State University-West Plains in West Plains, Missouri.
He was responsible for compliance with NJCAA, athletic conferences and university rules and regulations and fundraising. Before West Plains, Laverentz was the assistant athletic director at Pratt Community College where he was that department’s fiscal manager, oversaw scholarship budgets and ran game-day operations.
Before Pratt, Laverentz served as the director of basketball operations for the University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley women’s basketball team for one season. Laverentz also served in the same capacity for the University of Houston’s women’s basketball team.
Laverentz has also been a head basketball coach at the NJCAA level, most recently at Connors State College in 2014-15. He was also the head coach at New Mexico Junior College from 2005-07 following five seasons as an assistant coach.
Laverentz began his coaching career as a student assistant with the women’s basketball team at Missouri Western State while playing baseball from 1993-96.
After earning his Bachelor of Science in Physical Education, Laverentz became a graduate assistant at Arkansas State. He earned his Master of Science in Physical Education in 1998 and then stayed on one more season as a volunteer assistant coach.
