Kaylene Matlack joins the Blue Dragon Sports Information Department as the Assistant Athletic Trainer for the 2025-26 season.

A native of Burrton, Kansas, Matlack was a student at Hutchinson Community College and was a student trainer in the 2017-18 and 2018-19 academic/athletic seasons. While with the HutchCC Sports Medicine Department, Matlack got her first looks at first aid and emergency care as well as taping, wrapping and bracing, modality usage and other facets of the Sports Medicine field.

After graduation from Hutchinson Community College in 2019, Matlack transferred to Kansas State University.

Matlack then went Emporia State University for the 2022-23 and 2023-24 academic/athletic seasons to complete her masters work. She continued her development as an athletic trainer and developed skills in orthopedic assessment, clinical diagnosis, modality application, therapeutic exercise planning and general medicine.

After graduating from Emporia State in 2024, Matlack took a job as the athletic trainer at Abilene High School in Abilene, Kansas. She provided athletic training services for all 13 sports at Abilene High, providing immediate care, treatment and therapeutic management.

Matlack earned her Associate of Science degree from Hutchinson Community College in 2019. She graduated from Kansas State in December of 2021 with minors in Kinesiology, nutrition and Gerontology. She earned her Master of Science in Athletic Training degree from Emporia State in May 2024.
