Opened for the 1951-52 basketball season, the Hutchinson Sports Arena has become the mecca of junior college basketball, serving as the host of the NJCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Tournament since 1952.

The Sports Arena is the home for Hutchinson Blue Dragon men’s and women’s basketball. The Blue Dragon men have been in the Sports Arena since 1951-52 season, and the Blue Dragon women moved in 1974. In 1977, Blue Dragon volleyball made the Sports Arena its home after playing three seasons at the Hutchinson National Guard Armory.

In 2016, the Sports Arena went through a $29.5 million renovation that added three basketball gyms, a new weight room, locker rooms, offices and a remodel of the sports medicine office. The project was completed in April 2017.

With a capacity of 6,500, the Sports Arena is also the host of the Kansas State High School Activities Association Class 4A and Class 3A State Volleyball Tournaments and the KSHSAA Class 3A State Basketball Tournament. It has also hosted the NJCAA Division I Volleyball Tournament and hosts other local tournaments and events.
