Monday's thrilling five-set road victory over Butler vaulted the Hutchinson Community College volleyball team into the No. 2 overall seed for the 2023 Region VI Division I Volleyball Tournament, which begins Wednesday at home sites across the league.

Hutchinson (24-14) play host to Dodge City (15-16) at 6 p.m. on Wednesday at the Sports Arena in its opening-round match.

The match will be broadcast live on the Blue Dragon Sports Network beginning at 5:50 p.m.

Admission is $5 per person. Because this is a postseason event, Blue Dragon All-Sports Tickets are not valid. Hutchinson Community College students will be admitted free.

The Blue Dragons and Colby tied for second at 9-5, but the Dragons won a tie-breaker with the Trojans for the second seed.

Hutchinson swept the regular-season series with the Conquistadors, but each match had its difficulties.

The Blue Dragons defeated Dodge City 3-1 on August 30 at the Sports Arena. Hutchinson decisively won the first two sets, but dropped the third 25-10 before winning the fourth 20-19. Taniya Golden had a double-double with 12 kills and 12 digs. The Dragons held Dodge city to .077 hitting and had nine team blocks.

Hutchinson rallied from two sets down to defeat Dodge City on September 30 at the Student Events Center in Dodge City. Golden had 27 kills on .404 hitting in a 21-25, 20-25, 25-16, 25-14, 15-10 come from behind victory. The Blue Dragons had a season-high 20 team blocks in the second matchup.

Golden continues to lead the nation in kills with 541.

The Dragons hit .212 as a team and average 14.76 digs and 1.94 service aces per set.

Dodge City is averaging 10.95 kills per set on .141 hitting. The Conquistadors average 15.21 digs. 1.47 blocks and 1.85 aces per set.

The Hutchinson/Dodge City winner will take on the Colby/Cloud County winner in the second Region VI semifinal at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the Barton Gym in Great Bend. The Blue Dragons continue to lead the Jayhawk Conference in blocking at 2.37 blocks per set.
