After reeling off six victories in their last eight matches, the Hutchinson Community College volleyball team workings its way back into national rankings contention.

The Blue Dragons are receiving votes for the first time since being knocked out of the rankings when they were ranked No. 19 in the NJCAA Division I Preseason national volleyball rankings.

Now 10-4 after a Monday night victory over Pratt to make it seven wins in the last nine matches, the Blue Dragons are just one of two Jayhawk Conference teams receiving national consideration. Hutchinson and Dodge City are receiving votes.

The Dragons are 4-4 in tournament place this season, 2-0 against non-conference foes not played in tournaments and 4-0 in the Jayhawk Conference.

The Blue Dragons face two more huge home battles this week with Butler on Wednesday and Colby on Saturday.

Defending national champion Florida Southwestern State is the unanimous choice at No. 1 this week. Miami Dade is No. 2. New Mexico Junior College is No. 3, Odessa is No. 4 and past Blue Dragon opponent Navarro is No. 5.

Past Blue Dragon opponents Northeastern Junior College and Weatherford College are ranked Nos., 6 and 8, respectively.
