WICHITA – Hutchinson Community College freshman Brooke Hawkins had another strong performance in the triple jump with a second-place performance at the Wichita State/Herm Wilson Invitational on Friday at the Heskett Center.

Hawkins led a handful of Blue Dragons competing in the two-day Wichita State indoor meet. Her second jump of preliminaries of 38 feet, 1 3/4 inches (13.19 meters) vaulted her into second place behind only Wichita State's Chidera Okoro, who won the event at 39-7 3/4.

Hawkins, who last week set a school record in the triple jump, will compete in the long jump and high jump on Saturday.

Three Blue Dragons finished in the Top 12 in the women's triple jump on Friday. Liberty Limon was 11th at 32-9 3/4 (9.99m). Yaya Moreno was 12th at 32-9 (9.98m).

The Blue Dragons had athletes in two other events on Friday.

Nakaela O'Hair tied for seventh in the pole vault with a season-high clearance of 10 feet, 4 inches (3.15m). O'Hair tied Kiana Brown for the fifth-highest vault in Blue Dragon women's indoor history. O'Hair also became the second Blue Dragon to qualify for the 2024 NJCAA Indoor championships in March in Gainesville, Florida.

Alivia Noll tied for 18th with a clearance of 9-0 1/4 (2.75m).

Sophomore Hayleigh Burn led the Dragons in the weight throw with a 27th-place finish at 39-8 (12.08m). Freshman Jenna Kuepker was 29th at 39-1 (11.90m) and Aiyanna Green was 31st at 38-9 (11.82m).

The Blue Dragons will compete in two meets on Saturday. The Blue Dragon distance runners will run in the Wendy's/Pittsburg State Invitational at the Plaster Center. The rest of the team will compete in Day 2 of the Herm Wilson Classic.
