One week after qualifying for the NJCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship in the hammer throw, Hutchinson Community College Lushous Davis unleashed the second-best throw in Blue Dragon history last week at the Mike Kirkland/Southwestern Relays in Winfield.

Winning the hammer throw and placing in two other events, the Blue Dragon sophomore thrower was named the Jayhawk Conference's Women's Field Athlete of the Week on Tuesday.

Davis, a third-year sophomore from Aurora, Colorado, had been knocking on the door of a national qualifying. She finally punched her ticket at the Tabor Invitational on April 22.

Last Saturday at the Southwestern Relays, Davis uncorked a winning hammer throw of 156 feet, 6 inches (47.70 meters). That is the second-best hammer throw in Blue Dragon history and ranks fourth in the Jayhawk Conference and fifth in the nation this outdoor season.

Davis also finished fifth in the discus at 124-9 (38.03m) and was eighth in the shot put at 35-1 (10.69m) on Saturday.

Davis is the first Blue Dragon women's track and field athlete to earn weekly conference honors this season.
