Hutchinson CC Sports Information

TOPEKA – The Hutchinson Community College women's track and field team's Distance Medley Relay scored the only points on Day 1 of the NJCAA Indoor Championships on Friday at Washburn University.

The Blue Dragon relay unit of freshman Gracie Lambert, sophomore Keneah Romney, freshman Ellie Van Zelfden and freshman Taylor Hoskinson placed eighth overall with a time of 13 minutes, 3.56 seconds.

The Blue Dragon women are tied for 23rd after Day 1 at the national championships with one point. Hutchinson is tied with Hawkeye community College. Jayhawk Conference rival Barton has the Day 1 lead with 38 points. New Mexico Junior College has 35 points and Cloud County and Iowa Western are tied for third with 31 points.

Lambert advanced to the 800-meter finals on Saturday, placing ninth in the preliminaries with a time of 2:22.61.

Freshman distance runner Serenity Larson just missed the podium in the 5,000-meter finals on Friday. Larson finished 10th with a time of 19:01.09.

No Blue Dragon athletes advanced to Saturday's individual finals.

Freshman Kaylee James placed 13th in the 60-meter hurdle prelims with a time of 9.00 seconds.

Freshman Taylor Hoskinson was 18th in the 1,000-meter prelims with a time of 3:09.45.

The Blue Dragons will be active in three events on Saturday.
+ 10:45 a.m. – Maddy Hernandez competes in the high jump.
+ 12:30 p.m. – The Blue Dragon 4x800-meter relay (Hoskinson, Larson, Van Zelfden, Lambert)
+ 2:25 p.m. – Lambert in the 800-meter finals.
