TOPEKA - Hutchinson Community College freshman middle distance runner Gracie Lambert broke a Blue Dragon indoor record on Saturday at the Ichabod Open at Washburn University.

Lambert broke the Blue Dragon record in the indoor 800 meters on Saturday, posting a record time of 2 minutes, 21.40 seconds, which is also a national-qualifying time.

Lambert broke the 1993 record of Lori Teaney who ran 2:22.90 at the Region VI Championships at Ahearn Fieldhouse in Manhattan.

Running in an impressive field on Saturday, Lambert's record and NJCAA-qualifying time was good enough for 13th place.

Saturday's performance is Lambert's second individual event she has qualified for the NJCAA Championships next month in Topeka. She is also part of Hutchinson's Distance Medley Relay that qualified.

The Blue Dragons had Top 3 finishes on Saturday.

National qualifier Kaylee James improved her national mark in the 60-meter hurdles with a third-place finish in the event. She ran 8.87 seconds in the finals, which is a personal record and the third-fastest time in Blue Dragon indoor history. James had the fourth-best preliminary time on Saturday at 9.14 seconds.

Mady Hernandez placed third in the high jump on Saturday after clearing 5-2.25 (1.58m). Hernandez has already qualified for nationals in the event at 5-5. Liberty Limon placed sixth in the high jump at 5-0.25 (1.53m).

Now with eight total qualifiers, the Blue Dragons compete in the Region VI Championships on Friday and Saturday at the Plaster Center in Pittsburg.
