BLUE DRAGONS FALL IN FINAL REGULAR-SEASON GAME AT COWLEY

ARKANSAS CITY – The No. 16-ranked Hutchinson Community College women's soccer team couldn't dig its way out of a pair of two-goal deficits on Monday as the Blue Dragons fell to No. 17 Cowley 4-2 on Monday at the Cowley Soccer Complex.

The Blue Dragons finish the regular season 12-4-3 overall and finish fourth in the Jayhawk Conference with a 9-4-3 record (30 points). Cowley moved past the Blue Dragons into third place at 9-2-4 overall and 9-2-4 in league play (31 points).

Hutchinson will be the No. 4 overall seed for the upcoming Region VI Tournament. The Dragons will play at home on Sunday. Time and opponent should be released on Tuesday.

The Blue Dragons were in catch-up mode from the first minute of the game. Cowley's Lucia Rivas scored just 51 seconds into the game.

The Dragons had the equalizer in the 19th minute when Kaitlyn Edwards hammered home a cross from Tatiana Mayumi for her 13th goal of the season to knot the game at 1-1.

Cowley scored two more goals in the first half to lead 3-1 at halftime.

The Blue Dragons immediately countered 41 seconds into the second half when Jayda Wyatt took a pass from Katharina Marx and sprinted toward the goal. Wyatt blistered a shot from 22 yards out to cut the Cowley lead to 3-2.

Six minutes later, the Tigers made it 4-2 on a Sara Espinoza goal in the 52nd minute.

Blue Dragon keeper Karsyn Slothower made eight saves in 12 shots faced. She had to face a penalty kick in the second half, but Cowley's Lea Evin missed wide right.

Edwards has now scored goals in 4 of her last 5 games. Now with 89 saves for the season, Slothower moved into second place on the Blue Dragon single-season list for saves.

Cowley out-shot the Blue Dragons 21-13.

Cowley's Rivas had two goals and an assist to lead the Tigers to their second season sweep of the Blue Dragons.
