GREAT BEND – Kaitlyn Edwards scored a pair of goals, but the No. 10 Hutchinson Community College women's soccer team fell in a battle for first place in the Jayhawk Conference and an NJCAA Top 10 national matchup with No. 7 Barton on Sunday at Cougar Field.

The Blue Dragons had a five-game winning streak snapped after a 3-2 loss to the Cougars.

Hutchinson falls to 12-2-3 overall and 9-2-3 (30 points) in the Jayhawk Conference. The Cougars surpass the Blue Dragons into first place with 32 points at 10-1-2 overall and in league play. The Blue Dragons play host to No. 16 Kansas City at 6 p.m. on Wednesday for Sophomore Night at the Salthawk Sports Complex.

The Blue Dragons weren't able to generate a lot of offense, producing only five shots taken. Twice the Dragons found themselves down by two goals.

Hutchinson found success on set pieces, converting on 2 of 6 corner kicks.

The first came late in the first half trailing 2-0, Emma Hoffman delivered a kick into the box that Edwards headed in for Hutchinson's first goal of the game and 11th of the season with 2:32 to play in the first half.

Barton took a 3-1 lead on a free kick in the 55th minute. The Blue Dragons countered just 1 minute, 33 seconds later when Adriana Delgado's corner kick was headed in by Edwards to cut the Barton lead to 3-2 with 33:33 to play in the second half.

After the goal, Hutchinson had just one more shot on goal from Destiny Hoy. The Dragons weren't able to convert on a corner kick with 28:45 to play.

Edwards had her third two-goal game of the season. Hoffman and Delgado each had their sixth assists of the season.

The Blue Dragons gave up multiple goals for the first time this season. Barton took 10 shots.

Blue Dragon freshman Karsyn Slothower had three saves.

The teams split one-goal victories this season. Hutchinson defeated Barton 1-0 on September 13 in Hutchinson.

The Dragons are 5-1-2 on the road this season.
