The No. 8-ranked Hutchinson Community College women's soccer team dropped a tightly contested Jayhawk Conference battle with No. 10 Cowley on Saturday, falling 1-0 at the Salthawk Sports Complex.

The Tigers scored with eight minutes to play in the second half when Ada Ronnemaa deflected a Nanaka Inaba free kick to the lower right corner of the goal for the game's only tally.

The Blue Dragons were the last unbeaten team remaining in the KJCCC before Saturday. Hutchinson drops to 7-1-3 and 4-1-3 (15 points) in the KJCCC. Cowley is now 5-1-2 overall and in league play (17 points). The Blue Dragons play host to Garden City at 6 p.m. on Wednesday at the Salthawk Sports Complex.

Cowley had the majority of possession throughout the game, outshooting the Blue Dragon 16-11, including 9-5 in shots on goal.

The Blue Dragons had a tremendous scoring chance late in the first half. Katharina Marx had a strong run up the right side. As she was getting ready to cross the ball, Cowley keeper Canon Dehama aggressively came out and blocked the cross attempt.

The Dragons had a pair of shot attempts in the second half that just went over the cross bar.

Blue Dragon goalkeeper Karsyn Slothower was strong once again with eight saves against the Tigers. She made four saves in each half.

The goal that was allowed was set up by a Blue Dragon foul about 40 yards from the goal. Inaba's free kick was a low line drive that was deflected by Ronnemaa earn the top of the box past Slothower with 8 minutes remaining in the second half.

Freshman Kaitlyn Edwards (3 SOG) and sophomore Tatiana Mayumi (2 SOG) had the only shots on goal for the Blue Dragons.
