Hutchinson CC Sports Information

The Hutchinson Community College women's soccer team dropped a defensive struggle with Johnson County in the Blue Dragons' 2021 home opener on Saturday at the Salthawk Sports Complex.

Johnson County scored in the 78th minute and held on for a 1-0 win over the Blue Dragons. Johnson County has won six-straight games over Hutchinson dating back to 2014.

The Blue Dragons fall to 1-2 overall and 0-2 in the Jayhawk Conference. Johnson County improves to 2-1 overall and 1-1 in the league. The Blue Dragons play at Garden City at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.

Hutchinson was outshot 12-10 overall, but placed only two shot on goal and one off the crossbar.

Only Julia De Souza and Ella-Mae Miller had shots on goal for the Blue Dragons.

The first half was a total defensive struggle with only six combined shot and three combined corner kicks in a scoreless first 45 minutes.

Johnson County finally broke the scoring ice with an Emeree Bell goal with 12:55 to play in the second half. Lexi Dillon was credited with the assist.

Blue Dragon goalkeeper Olivia Felix-Cardona made a season-high seven saves. Johnson County keeper Olivia Way had two saves.
