DRAGONS DRAW NO. 1 OVERALL SEED FOR NJCAA WOMEN’S TOURNAMENT

Running the table through the regular season and winning the Region 6 Tournament, the Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team earned the No. 1 overall seed for the 2024 NJCAA Division I Women's Basketball Tournament on Sunday evening.

The 33-0 Blue Dragons will receive an opening-round bye and will play the winner of the Cochise/Chattanooga State winner at 3:30 p.m. CT on Wednesday, March 27 at the Ford Wyoming Center in Casper, Wyoming.

The tournament begins on Tuesday, March 26 in Casper.

Hutchinson, Wabash Valley, Northwest Florida State and Collin are the Top 4 overall seeds in this year's tournament.

The Blue Dragons enter a national tournament undefeated for the fourth time in program history, joining the 1977, 2012 and 2014 teams to accomplish that feat.

The Blue Dragons are making their 12th overall national tournament appearance and 11th with head coach John Ontjes on the bench. The Blue Dragons make their first tournament appearance since the 2022 season.

The Blue Dragons are 20-12 all-time in NJCAA Tournament play. The Blue Dragons have never played either Cochise or Chattanooga State.

The Dragons earn their first first-round bye since the 2018 seasons. The Dragons won their opening-round games in 2019 and 2022.

Hutchinson has finished as national runner up three times (2012, 2014 and 2015) and third place in 2013. The last time the Dragons played in the national semifinals was 2019.

Dodge City was the only other Jayhawk Conference team to earn a spot in the field as an at-large team with the No. 18 overall seed.
