Blue Dragon Sports Information

The No. 1-ranked Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team concludes its two-game road trip on Saturday with a trek to southwest Kansas to meet the Seward County Saints.

The Blue Dragons (26-0, 20-0 Jayhawk Conference) and the Saints (14-12, 10-10 Jayhawk Conference) will tip off at 4 p.m. on Saturday at Seward County's Greenhouse in Liberal.

The game will be broadcast live on Blue Dragon flagship station KHUT-FM (102.9) and on sister stations KWBW-AM/FM (1450/98.5) beginning at 3:45 p.m. with Sean Boston (play-by-play) and Daren Dunn (color) calling the action. The game will also be streamed live and free on the Blue Dragon Sports Network at 3:45 p.m.

Riding a 3.5-game lead over second-place Dodge City into Saturday's matchup, the Blue Dragons are one victory away from clinching the 2024 Jayhawk Conference championship outright. The Blue Dragons are in search of their 13th all-time conference championship, the 10th produced by head coach John Ontjes. Hutchinson was Jayhawk Conference co-champions two seasons ago and last won the league outright in 2021.

Hutchinson won their 26th consecutive game - matching 1976-77 Blue Dragons for the first best-start and the fourth-longest winning stream in team history - after a 91-52 victory on Wednesday at Northwest Tech. The Blue Dragons hit a season-high 14 3-pointers and had four players score in double figures led by Kiki Smith's 15 points.

Seward County has lost three games in a row, albeit to three teams in the upper division of the KJCCC.

The Saints lost to No. 15 Dodge City 74-63 on Wednesday at Dodge City. Jamia Carter had 16 points and five steals, while Allie Myers had a double-double with 11 points and 16 rebounds to pace the Saints.

Hutchinson won the first meeting of the year with Seward County, defeating the Saints 69-53 on January 10 at the Sports Arena. Journey Armstead and Monae Duffy had 16 points each to ace the Blue Dragons, who forced 28 Seward County turnover. Duffy had a double-double with 13 rebounds. Carter had 20 points and Myers had 12 points and 14 rebounds to lead Seward County.

The Blue Dragons are 9-0 in true road games this season. Hutchinson is in the second game of four road games in its final five games of the regular season.
