Hutchinson CC Sports Information
For the first time since the 2017-18 season, the Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team is ranked No. 1 in the NJCAA Division I national rankings.
Off to a 23-0 start – tied for the fourth-best start in the program's 50-years history, the Blue Dragons are the lone-remaining unbeaten team in the nation. After previous No. 1 Gulf Coast State lost in overtime to unranked Chipola last Wednesday, the Blue Dragons vaulted into the top spot following a pair of 30-point wins over Pratt and Cloud County.
The last time the Dragons were ranked No. 1 was the 2917-18 preseason poll. The Blue Dragons dropped one early game that season to Seward County, fell to No. 9 and fought all the way back to No. 2 in that season's final poll.
This is the first time the Blue Dragons have been ranked No. 1 in a regular season poll since the 2014-15 season. That team remained No. 1 for the final six polls of that season.
The first time Blue Dragon women's basketball ascended to No. 1 came in the 2012-13 season. That team spent five weeks at No. 1
The new Top 5 has the Blue Dragons at No. 1, Gulf Coast State at No. 3, Collin at No. 3, Northwest Florida State at No. 4 and New Mexico Junior College at No. 5.
After dropping a road game Saturday at Cowley, Dodge City dropped five spots to No. 16. Butler remained No. 21.
This week, the Blue Dragons travel to Cowley at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday and play host to No. 21 Butler at 2 p.m. on Saturday in the Sports Arena.
The Blue Dragons have been ranked now in 11 consecutive polls.
