The No. 5-ranked Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team will close the first half of the 2024 Jayhawk Conference season on Saturday night against the Garden City Broncbusters.

Tipoff between the Blue Dragons (17-0, 11-0 KJCCC) and the Broncbusters (10-6, 5-6) is 5:30 p.m. at the Hutchinson Sports Arena.

The game will be broadcast live on Blue Dragon flagship station KHUT-FM (102.9) beginning at 5:15 p.m. Sean Boston (PBP) and Dan Naccarato (color) will call the action. The game will be streamed live on the Blue Dragon Sports Network beginning at 5:15 p.m.

Entering the final game of the first half of the conference season, the Blue Dragons have a 1.5 game lead over No. 13 Dodge City. The Conquistadors have their first bye week Saturday before coming to the Sports Arena next Wednesday to take on the Blue Dragons. No. 14 Butler is a full two games behind the Blue Dragons. Barton and Coffeyville are four games off of Hutchinson's pace.

The Blue Dragons extended the sixth-best start in program history and the seventh-longest winning streak in program history with a hard-fought 74-64 victory over the Barton Cougars on Wednesday at the Sports Arena.

Freshman Kiki Smith, the sixth-leading scorer in the Jayhawk Conference, scored a game-high 17 points to lead five Blue Dragons scoring in double figures. Sophomore Bree Horyna was key off the bench for Hutchinson with 13 points and three assists.

Sophomore guards Journey Armstead and Akaysha Muggeridge have picked up the scoring pace over the last three games with each player both scoring in double figures over that stretch. Armstead is averaging 15.0 points and 3.7 assists over the last three games. Muggeridge is averaging 13.7 points with 3.7 assists per game.

Garden City has lost four games in a row and are 4-6 in their last 10 games after starting the season 6-0 for first-year head Greg Franklin.

Garden City lost on Wednesday 85-77. Sierra Driessen, the fourth-leading scorer in the Jayhawk Conference at 18.2 points per game - had 23 points to lead Garden City.

The Blue Dragons and Broncbusters meet for the 98th time in series history on Saturday. The Blue Dragons have a 78-19 all-time series advantage over Garden City, which includes a current 11-game winning streak against the Broncbusters.
