BLUE DRAGON GAME NOTES

Hutchinson CC Sports Information

The Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team is in a stretch of 5 home games in the midst of a six-game stretch.

The one road trip in that stretch comes Saturday when the No. 6-ranked Blue Dragons travel to Southeast Kansas to meet the Coffeyville Red Ravens.

Tipoff for the Blue Dragons (15-0, 9-0, KJCCC) and Red Ravens (11-4, 6-3) is scheduled for 2 p.m. at Nellis Hall in Coffeyville. The game will be broadcast live on Blue Dragon flagship station KHUT-FM (102.9) at 1:45 p.m. with Sean Boston (PBP) and Daren Dunn (color) calling the action. The Red Raven Sports Network, located on YouTube, will provide a free stream of the game beginning at 1:55 p.m.

Hutchinson and Coffeyville met three times last season. The Blue Dragons won the two regular-season games, but the Red Ravens upset Hutchinson 73-68 in the quarterfinals of the 2023 Region VI Tournament en route to an appearance in the regional tournament championship game.

Hutchinson started the season out of the national rankings, but has climbed to No. 6 in the latest poll. Coffeyville started the season ranked No. 18 and was as high as No. 17 before going 6-4 in its last 10 games to fall out of the rankings.

The Blue Dragons come off a 69-53 home victory over Seward County on Wednesday night. Monae Duffy scored 16 points and had 13 rebounds for her third double-double of the season.

The Dragons got off to a slow offensive start, leading only 11-9 after the first quarter, but once again exploded in the second quarter, outscoring the Saints 22-11. Seward pulled within two points late in the third quarter, but the Dragons shot 63 percent in the final 10 minutes to pull away.

Coffeyville dropped a 106-75 decision on the road Wednesday night at No. 14 Dodge City. The Red Ravens were blitzed by a 3-point barrage as Dodge City hit an astounding 23 3-pointers in 35 attempts. For their part, the Ravens hit 11 of 25 3-pointers.

Shooting from distance is a staple of the Red Ravens. They rank fourth in 3-point efficiency at 30.8 percent, making 8.0 treys per contest.

The Blue Dragons enter a key four-game stretch playing all upper-division KJCCC teams - at Coffeyville on Saturday and three-straight at home with Barton, Garden City and No. 14 Dodge City.
